Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (SportsNetwork.com) - Second seed David Ferrer and fourth seed Tommy Robredo were both straight-set winners Wednesday in second- round play at the inaugural $1.3 million Rio Open, which is part of the ATP World Tour's 'Golden Swing' through Latin America.
Ferrer, fresh off his title in Buenos Aires last week, shook off a slow start to get by Federico Delbonis 7-6, 6-1 while Robredo whipped Serb Dusan Lajovic 6-2, 6-1 on the red clay at Jockey Club Brasileiro.
Meanwhile, eighth-seeded Spaniard Pablo Andujar received a walkover into the quarters when Slovak Martin Klizan pulled out of their scheduled second-round match on Day 3, citing an upset stomach.
Wednesday's other second-round match saw seventh seed Juan Monaco fall to Thomaz Bellucci 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in a match that lasted just over two hours.
