Bastad, Sweden – Spanish stars and former champions David Ferrer and Nicolas Almagro both won their semifinal matches Saturday at the clay-court Swedish Open.
The top-seeded Ferrer had little trouble in taking down sixth-seeded Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov with a 6-3, 7-5 victory that took a little over 1 1/2 hours to finish.
In the other semifinal, second-seeded Almagro had no problems with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Jan Hajek of the Czech Republic.
Ferrer titled here in 2007 by beating the 2010 winner Almagro in the final and was last year's Bastad runner-up to Swedish slugger Robin Soderling.
Almagro, ranked 10th in the world, will be looking for his 13th title and second of the year while Ferrer, No. 5 in the world, is hoping for his 16th title and fifth of the year.
Sunday's title match winner will collect $79,000.
