A member of Eastern Michigan's track and field team has been charged with sexual assault.

The Ann Arbor News reports Eli Burdette was arraigned Sunday on first- and second-degree criminal sexual conduct. A woman told police Saturday she was sexually assaulted in her off-campus apartment. The newspaper reports Burdette lives in the same complex.

Eastern Michigan said Monday an charged in a felony warrant Sunday had been indefinitely suspended from practice and competitions. The school says the athlete "will not be returning to campus" while it "investigates the situation."

A preliminary examination is scheduled Nov. 25. Burdette is a sophomore from Mansfield, Ohio. He competes in throws.

The Associated Press could not find a phone number for Burdette. Court records to find a possible attorney weren't available Monday.
