MIAMI (Reuters) - The Miami Dolphins acquired disgruntled Pro Bowl wide receiver Brandon Marshall from the Denver Broncos on Wednesday to land the game-breaking pass catcher they had been looking for.
The Dolphins said on their website (http://www.miamidolphins.com) that they had obtained Marshall, known to NFL fans as "The Beast," in exchange for undisclosed draft picks.
The Broncos confirmed on their website (http://www.denverbroncos.com) they would receive Miami's second-round picks in the 2010 and 2011 drafts.
According to local media reports, Marshall agreed a four-year $47 million contract extension, of which $24 million is guaranteed. The deal is contingent on Marshall passing a physical.
Last season Marshall had 101 catches for 1,120 yards and a career-high 10 touchdowns in 15 games.
Included in that total was a league record 21 receptions during game against the Indianapolis Colts.
Taken in the fourth round of the 2006 NFL draft by the Broncos, Marshall spent four years in Denver and has averaged more than 100 catches and 1,100 yards in his last three seasons.
Marshall's career, however, has often been overshadowed by controversy.
He was suspended by the league before the start of the 2008 campaign for off-field issues and was banned by the Broncos for conduct detrimental to the team during last year's training camp.
This marks the second consecutive year the Broncos have been involved in a blockbuster pre-season deal after they shipped quarterback Jay Cutler to the Chicago Bears last year.
