Davie, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Miami Dolphins signed free agent cornerback Cortland Finnegan on Friday.
The move to bolster the secondary came just three days after Finnegan was released by the Rams as a salary-cap casualty. He'll be expected to complement Pro Bowl cornerback Brent Grimes.
"It just felt right. I'd like to compete for the starting job," Finnegan said of coming to south Florida. "I play with an edge, and I've learned to control that over the years."
The Samford product, who signed a deal with St. Louis for five years at approximately $50 million in March of 2012, recorded only 27 tackles and one interception in seven games (five starts) last year. He picked up 101 tackles, three picks and one sack in 16 games two seasons ago in his first campaign with the Rams.
Over his eight-year NFL career with the Titans and Rams, Finnegan has totaled 601 tackles, 18 interceptions (four returned for TDs) and seven sacks.
