LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The Los Angeles Dodgers signed pitcher Vicente Padilla on a one-year contract on Thursday, retaining the services of a proven game winner.

After joining the Dodgers from the Texas Rangers in August, Nicaraguan Padilla went 4-0 with a 3.20 ERA in seven regular season games to give the National League West champions a much-needed boost.

"Vicente did a tremendous job for us down the stretch and his continued success in the post-season proved that he can pitch when there's a lot at stake," Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said in a statement.

The right-hander has won 14 or more games in four of the last eight seasons, bracketing him with Andy Pettitte of the New York Yankees as the only pitchers to have accomplished the feat.

Padilla, 32, is 98-85 with a 4.33 ERA in 305 career games with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Philadelphia Phillies, the Rangers and the Dodgers.
