Los Angeles, CA – The Los Angeles Dodgers placed outfielder Scott Van Slyke on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday with left shoulder bursitis.
Van Slyke batted .221 with six home runs and 11 RBI over 24 games this season for the Dodgers, who are already shorthanded in the outfield.
Los Angeles is currently without center fielder Matt Kemp and left fielder Carl Crawford, who are both nursing hamstring injuries.
Additionally, the Dodgers optioned infielder Justin Sellers to Triple-A Albuquerque. Over 27 games for Los Angeles, Sellers batted just .188 with one home run and two RBI.
To fill the vacated roster spots, the Dodgers recalled outfielder Alex Castellanos and pitcher Chris Withrow from Albuquerque.
Over 43 games with Albuquerque this season, Castellanos is batting .270 with nine home runs and 28 RBI.
The right-handed Withrow is 4-0 with a 1.93 earned run average over 22 relief appearances, and has not yielded a run over his last seven outings.
