New York, NY – Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp has been unanimously voted the National League Player of the Month for April.
Through 23 games during the month, Kemp led the majors with a.417 batting average and 12 home runs, while ranking at the top of the NL in hits (35), RBI (25), runs (24) and slugging percentage (.893). He also finished the month second in on-base percentage (.490).
His 12 home runs set a Dodgers franchise record for the most home runs in April and were the fifth-most ever in the month behind Albert Pujols (14), Alex Rodriguez (14), Luis Gonzalez (13) and Ken Griffey Jr. (13).
The 27 year-old's hot start at the plate helped get the Dodgers off to a 16-7 record in April, the team's best start since 1983.
This is his first career monthly award.
