The Arizona Diamondbacks have placed third baseman Eric Chavez on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained right oblique.
Chavez left Thursday's game against Texas in the first inning because of the injury. He was hurt while taking a swing.
The 35-year-old veteran has been stellar in his first season with Arizona. He is batting a robust .325 with seven homers and 25 runs batted in over 38 games.
Arizona activated another 35-year-old infielder, Willie Bloomquist, off the disabled list. He had been sidelined since spring training with a right oblique strain.
In four rehab games at Triple-A Reno, Bloomquist went 7-for-15 with eight runs batted in. He has hit .283 in 158 games over two seasons with the Diamondbacks.
