Amsterdam, Netherlands (SportsNetwork.com) - Ajax captain Siem de Jong is facing a spell on the sidelines after tearing his right hamstring in Sunday's 0-0 draw with NAC.

De Jong lasted just eight minutes on Sunday before being withdrawn due to the injury, and he now faces an extended period on the sidelines which could prevent him from taking part in Ajax's top-of-the-league clash with second- place Twente on March 30.

The club's KNVB Cup semifinal against AZ Alkmaar may also come too soon for De Jong, who will be re-examined in two weeks.

The 25-year-old has netted seven goals in 18 league games this season for Ajax, which sits seven points clear at the top of the Eredivisie.
