Davis Love III gets another shot as U.S. Ryder Cup captain. His introduction Tuesday as captain in 2016 made it feel as if he was doing this for the first time.
Love was captain in a losing effort at Medinah in 2012. He becomes the first repeat U.S. captain since Jack Nicklaus in 1987. In some respects, he's the first captain in a new Ryder Cup process that came out of a task force.
Former captains and players were part of the task force. Their goal is to create continuity and a model for success for 2016 and beyond.
The model included a few changes. Two of the vice captains will be former U.S. captains, and the other two will be players with Ryder Cup experience. Also, the top eight qualifiers will be determined after the opening FedEx Cup playoff event. Previously, qualifying ended at the PGA Championship.
