5 Things to Watch:
1. These are the two games with the highest over/under for Friday, provided by OddsShark...
Games | O/U |
---|---|
CLE/BOS | 9 |
TEX/HOU | 9 |
Editor's note: There are three games tied with an over/under of 8.5: WAS/MIA, TB/DET, and SEA/DET.
2. Three teams are pegged as the favorite around -200 tonight: Pirates (Gerrit Cole), Mets (Steven Matz), and Cubs (Jake Arrieta).
3. For the BvP enthusiasts: Jimmy Rollins is 14-31 (.452) with two home runs against Dillon Gee, Martin Prado is 9-18 (.500) against Tanner Roark, and Sal Perez is 17-45 (.378) against Jose Quintana.
4. The Mariners lose the DH as they travel to Cincinnati.
5. Speaking of the SEA/CIN game, there is rain in the forecast for Friday night.
Yesterday's recap:
John Halpin didn't have to tell me twice to stack the Indians on Thursday. The top of the order delivered and the Indians scored seven runs.
Must-Start of the day: Gerrit Cole, PIT
Jake Arrieta is a very expensive pitcher tonight, but Cole might be the better option. Cole has struck out seven batters in back-to-back performances and he's much cheaper than Arrieta, especially on DraftKings.
Deal of the day: Khris Davis, OAK
He hit three home runs on Wednesday and he crushes lefties. Davis has a .394 ISO against southpaws this year.
Avoid of the day: Eric Hosmer, KC
He is 10-50 (.200) with 11 strikeouts against Jose Quintana.
Stack of the day: New York Mets
Wily Peralta is allowing left-handed hitters to bat .290 against him in his career. That puts Lucas Duda and Michael Conforto as good options for Friday. Also, the way La Potencia has been crushing pitchers, Cespedes joins the stack, too.
Starting pitchers:
Gerrit Cole, PIT - "Must-start of the day"
Scott Kazmir, LAD - Here is your mandatory "who's pitching against the Padres" update. Kazmir has punched out at least six batters in four-consecutive outings. This was his stat line against San Diego in Nola's first start of 2016 (April 5th): 6 IP, 0 ER, and 5 Ks.
Aaron Nola, PHI - He has the weak Atlanta offense and Nola has struck out at least seven batters in four of the past five starts.
Catchers:
Yan Gomes, CLE - He has a .200 ISO against righties this season.
Salvador Perez, KC - (See "5 Things")
Evan Gattis, HOU - He took Chris Sale deep last night and gets another lefty tonight.
First basemen:
Carlos Santana, CLE - He hit two home runs on Thursday and has a .242 ISO against righties this season.
Lucas Duda, NYM - He has a .223 ISO against righties this season.
Second basemen:
Jason Kipnis, CLE - The Indians are rolling and Kipnis is towards the top of the lineup. He also has a .202 ISO against righties this year.
Jose Altuve, HOU - He has a .261 ISO against right-handed pitchers in 2016.
Rougned Odor, TEX - He has a .248 ISO against righties this season.
Third basemen:
Danny Valencia, OAK - He. Is. On. Fire. Valencia has a .481 ISO against southpaws this season.
Adrian Beltre, TEX - He has a .209 ISO against right-handed pitchers in 2016.
Shortstops:
Carlos Correa, HOU - He is always towards the top of our shortstop rankings and for good reason. He has a .214 ISO (seven homers) against right-handed pitchers in 2016.
Jimmy Rollins, CWS - (See "5 Things")
Aledmys Diaz, STL - He has a .200 ISO against lefties and sometimes bats second for the Cardinals.
Outfielders:
Yoenis Cespedes, NYM - He has a .375 ISO against righties this year.
Michael Conforto, NYM - He has a .298 ISO this season against right-handed pitchers.
Jayson Werth, WAS - He sometimes gets a boost to the number two spot in the Nats order and Werth has a .526 ISO against southpaws this season.
Bryce Harper, WAS - Even left-handed pitchers aren't safe from the lefty-swinging Harper (.346 ISO)
Stephen Piscotty, STL - He has a .300 ISO against lefties this year.
Khris Davis, OAK - "Deal of the day"
Colby Rasmus, HOU - He has a .235 ISO against righties this season.

Adam Duvall, CIN - He has a .319 ISO against righties this year.
Jay Bruce, CIN - He has a .288 ISO against righties this season.
