The San Jose Earthquakes announced on Wednesday that the club has signed midfielder Sam Cronin and defender Jason Hernandez to new contracts.
Both players were key pieces on a San Jose squad that captured the 2012 MLS Supporters' Shield before being knocked out of the playoffs in the Western Conference semifinals by the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Hernandez has been with San Jose since its 2008 expansion season and he appeared in 25 games for the club this term, helping the 'Quakes keep seven clean sheets.
Cronin was acquired from Toronto FC during the 2010 season and he started 30 games during the 2012 regular season, scoring one goal and chipping in six assists.
