Irving, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The Dallas Cowboys said Wednesday they have released four-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jay Ratliff after he failed a physical.
Ratliff, 32, played just six games last season after injuring his groin. He had offseason surgery to repair a sports hernia.
He collected 27 sacks and 228 tackles over eight seasons with the Cowboys, who drafted him in the seventh round in 2005.
Ratliff was arrested in January and charged with DWI after he crashed his pickup truck into an 18-wheeler. He has a trial date set for next February.
The incident occurred weeks after former teammate Josh Brent was charged with manslaughter in the drunk-driving crash that killed 25-year-old Jerry Brown, Jr., a Cowboys practice squad player.
