MINNESOTA (Reuters) - Former American League MVP Justin Morneau has been once again derailed by concussion symptoms and is out of the Minnesota Twins lineup indefinitely, the team said Tuesday.

The first baseman has been diagnosed with mild symptoms, though his condition cannot be taken lightly given the 30-year-old slugger's recent history. A concussion caused Morneau to miss the entire second half of the 2010 season.

Morneau will be tested again over the next couple of days and reevaluated.

"I'm sure it makes him nervous, but it's something that he's had to really deal with for a long time," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire told the team's website (minnesota.twins.mlb.com).

"It's something we don't take very lightly around here. We'll be really careful with this situation."

Morneau's 2011 season has already been beset by injury as he missed two months with a neck ailment before returning on August 10.

A four-time All Star and the 2006 AL MVP, Morneau is batting just .227 with four home runs this season.
