Last year's finalists -- champion up Pablo Andujar -- were among Friday's quarterfinal winners and will now do battle in the 2011 semifinals at the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy tennis event.
The top-seeded world No. 23 Chela rolled past seventh-seeded Italian Andreas Seppi 7-5, 6-3, while the fourth-seeded Andujar handled surprise Italian qualifier Alessandro Giannessi 6-3, 6-4 on the red clay at BNR Arenas. The Argentine Chela doused the Spanish Andujar 7-5, 6-1 in last year's Bucharest finale. They will meet for a third time, all on clay, at the ATP level on Saturday, with Chela holding a 2-0 lead in their lifetime series.
The other semi will pit second-seeded world No. 24 German Florian Mayer against unseeded Italian Filippo Volandri. Mayer mauled Spaniard Albert Ramos 6-1, 6-2 in 67 minutes, while Volandri drilled Brazil's Joao Souza 6-2, 6-0 on Day 5 in Bucharest's capital city.
Sunday's champion will earn $93,000.
