The San Diego Chargers named Tom Telesco as their new general manager Wednesday.

Telesco replaces A.J. Smith, who was relieved of his duties on Dec. 31 after spending 10 years with the club.

The Chargers won five AFC West divisional crowns during his tenure.

Telesco had been with the Indianapolis Colts since 1995, recently serving as the team's vice president of football operations.

Under the 40-year-old's guidance in 2012, Indianapolis quickly turned around a 2-14 record in 2011 to an 11-5 mark this past season, which earned the Colts a playoff spot before falling to the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Wild Card round.

Telesco's first task will be to find a replacement for Norv Turner, who was also fired on Dec. 31 following six seasons as San Diego's head coach.
