Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Homer Bailey pitched 7 1/3 innings of one-run ball and helped the Cincinnati Reds to a 4-1 win over the Colorado Rockies in the rubber match of a three-game set.
Bailey (3-2) allowed four hits and two walks with six strikeouts for the Reds, who welcomed back All-Star closer Aroldis Chapman.
Chapman took a gruesome comebacker to the face in spring training off the bat of Kansas City's Salvador Perez that required the insertion of a metal plate above his left eye.
Chapman allowed a leadoff walk in the ninth and proceeded to strike out the side for his first save of the season.
Todd Frazier homered, Skip Schumaker drove in two and Billy Hamilton tripled and scored a run in the win.
Charlie Blackmon hit a homer to account for the only Colorado run. Rockies starter Juan Nicasio (4-2) was charged with four runs -- two earned -- on five hits over six innings.
Hamilton led off the home half of the first with a bunt single and Justin Morneau committed a throwing error on the play trying to nab the speedster.
Hamilton raced all the way to third on the play and crossed home a batter later when Schumaker grounded out to second.
Schumaker added an RBI single in the third to give the Reds a 2-0 lead.
Blackmon cut the deficit in half with his ninth homer of the year to lead off the fourth.
Frazier answered in the home half of the fourth with a solo shot to center.
The Rockies had something going in the fifth, but Bailey worked his way out of a jam to keep Cincinnati in front by two.
Morneau walked and Michael McKenry followed with a ground-rule double to left.
Bailey then struck out DJ LeMahieu and Juan Nicasio before getting Blackmon to pop out to Frazier in foul territory.
Brandon Phillips reached on a throwing error by Nolan Arenado in the fifth that plated Ramon Santiago for a 4-1 advantage.
Chapman came on for the ninth and walked Troy Tulowitzki to open the inning. The left-hander then fired a 102 mph fastball by Carlos Gonzalez for the first out, got Arenado to go down swinging with a slider and blew Morneau away with fastballs to secure the series win.
