Glasgow, Scotland (SportsNetwork.com) - Celtic moved to the top of the Scottish Premier League table on Saturday thanks to a 2-0 defeat of Motherwell at Parkhead.
Anthony Stokes struck in the 21st minute to give the home side the lead while Kris Commons doubled Celtic's advantage just four minutes into the second half.
The win helps the Hoops improve to 22 points, which is good enough to put them in first place after Inverness was humbled in a 4-0 loss at St. Johnstone on Saturday.
Inverness came into the weekend level with Celtic on 19 points apiece, but first-half goals from Steve May and Dave MacKay prevented the club from keeping pace with the reigning Scottish champions. Steven MacLean scored twice in the second half to secure all three points for St. Johnstone.
Elsewhere in the Scottish top flight on Saturday, John McGinn and Paul McGowan scored on opposite sides of halftime in St. Mirren's 2-0 win at Hearts, Rocco Quinn bagged the lone goal in Ross County's 1-0 defeat of Aberdeen and Nadir Ciftci's 56th-minute goal was enough to see Dundee United get a 1-0 victory over Kilmarnock.
