Celtic claims 12th-straight win in St. Mirren victory
Paisley, Scotland – Celtic earned its 12th-straight Scottish 0 defeat of St. Mirren at St. Mirren Park.
The Hoops did not break through until the 71st minute when James Forrest claimed his sixth goal of the campaign. Scott Brown tacked on a second goal two minutes from time to wrap up three points for the visitors.
Celtic has not dropped points in the Scottish league since Oct. 29 when it was held to a scoreless draw against Hibernian. It has not lost a league game since its 4-2 Old Firm drubbing to Rangers on Sept. 18.
The win also extends Celtic's lead at the top of the table to four points after Rangers were held to a 1-1 home draw with Aberdeen. The Hoops set the pace with 59 points on the year.
St. Mirren, meanwhile, suffers its third-straight defeat in league play and remains in the thick of the relegation playoff picture. The Paisley club is tied with Aberdeen on 26 points apiece.
Rangers 1, Aberdeen 1
Glasgow, Scotland - Rangers fell another two points adrift of Scottish Premier League leaders Celtic on Saturday, drawing with Aberdeen, 1-1, at Ibrox.
The visitors took the lead through Kari Arnason in the 63rd minute, but American midfielder Maurice Edu quickly equalized with a goal four minutes later.
A game-winner never materialized, as Rangers now trail Celtic by four points after the Hoops claimed their 12th-straight victory. Rangers remain in second place with 55 points on the year, while Aberdeen improves to 26 points as it looks to climb into the top half of the table.
St. Johnstone 3, Hibernian 2
Edinburgh, Scotland - St. Johnstone came out on top in its back-and-forth match with Hibernian on Saturday, defeating Hibs, 3-2, at Easter Road.
The visitors were in front by the break thanks to a 30th-minute goal from Lee Croft. Leigh Griffiths equalized from the penalty spot in the 70th minute, but St. Johnstone jumped back in front a minute later through a Liam Craig strike.
The two sides traded blows again, as Callum Booth thought he had claimed a point for Hibs with a goal in the 84th minute. But St. Johnstone left it late as Spanish striker Francisco Sandaza notched a dramatic winner in the 87th minute.
Inverness 1, Hearts 0
Inverness, Scotland - Inverness extended its unbeaten run in league play to four games with a 1-0 defeat of Hearts at Caledonian Stadium on Saturday.
Shane Sutherland picked a fine time to score his first goal of the season, as his 49th-minute strike handed the home side its third win in its last four Scottish league games.
Inverness sits third from bottom with 25 points, 10 points fewer than Hearts.
Dunfermline 3, Kilmarnock 0
Kilmarnock, Scotland - Dunfermline put a stop to its five-game losing skid in the Premier League in stunning fashion Saturday, defeating Kilmarnock, 3-0, at Rugby Park.
Andrew Barrowman put the visitors in front just before halftime while Joe Cardle and Liam Buchanan extended the lead with goals in the 60th and 87th minutes respectively.
Dunfermline still occupies last place in the league with 17 points, but it is now just one point shy of climbing out of the cellar. Kilmarnock, on the cusp of cracking the top half of the table, sits seventh with 27 points.
Dundee United 1, Motherwell 1
Dundee, Scotland - Motherwell earned a dramatic point at Tannadice Park on Saturday as Michael Higdon's late equalizer saw the visitors play to a 1-1 with Dundee United.
Stephen Craigan gifted Dundee the lead in the 28th minute with an own goal, but Higdon's strike eventually canceled it out to help Motherwell earn a share of the points.
The draw snaps a three-game losing skid for Motherwell, which is tied with Hearts and St. Johnstone on 35 points each. Dundee, on 27 points, clings to its spot in the top half of the table despite being tied seventh-place Kilmarnock.
