Cavaliers finalize deal with Perkins

Cleveland, OH ( - As expected, the Cleveland Cavaliers have signed Kendrick Perkins after the veteran center recently cleared waivers.

Perkins, who has appeared in 135 postseason games over a 12-year career and won an NBA title with the Boston Celtics in 2008, drew significant interest from a number of contending teams after having his contract bought out by Utah on Saturday.

The 30-year-old had been acquired by the Jazz from Oklahoma City as part of Thursday's three-team deadline deal that sent center Enes Kanter to the Thunder and guard Reggie Jackson to the Detroit Pistons.

Perkins, expected to back up Timofey Mozgov in Cleveland, will be available for the Cavaliers' game at Detroit on Tuesday night.

Several media outlets reported over the weekend that Perkins had committed to signing with the Cavs following a heavy recruiting pitch from LeBron James.

James tweeted on Saturday that Perkins would be joining Cleveland once the buyout was completed.

"The Land welcome my bro as well as my muscle(LOL) @KendrickPerkins to the city with open arms! Happy and thrilled to have u aboard homie!!," James wrote.

Perkins is averaging just 4.0 points and 5.5 rebounds this season, but was valued by teams for his experience and leadership.
