Thibodaux, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Nicholls State University's top running back Marcus Washington has been lost to a season-ending knee injury, head coach Charlie Stubbs announced on Thursday.

Washington, a senior, suffered the injury in the Colonels' 33-21 win against Northwestern State last Saturday, when he rushed for 77 yards and a career-high three touchdowns on 23 carries.

"We were hoping it wasn't going to be as significant, but through the testing and the MRI it showed it was a serious knee injury and Marcus will be out for the remainder of the year," Stubbs said.

Washington ranks second on the team and fifth in the Southland in rushing with 68.8 yards per game, netting 413 yards on 96 carries. He is also second in scoring with nine touchdowns, including two on his 24 receptions.

He finishes his career ranked eighth on the Colonels' all-time rushing list with 1,827 yards.

Nichols is 4-2 overall and 1-0 in Southland games. The Colonels visit Stephen F. Austin on Saturday.
