CALGARY - The Calgary Flames own a pro lacrosse team.

The NHL club has bought the National Lacrosse League's Calgary Roughnecks from Brad Banister.

Flames president Ken King made the announcement today.

Banister put the Roughnecks up for sale on the eve of this season after the Roughnecks ran into financial trouble in February, when Banister told players they would have to wait for their paycheques.

The owners of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and Colorado Avalanche also own National Lacrosse League teams.
