Mauricio Pinilla scored his eighth goal this season as Cagliari defeated Catania, 3-0, on Tuesday at the Stadio Sant'Elia in Italy's Serie A.
Thiago Ribeiro and Segundo Ibarbo also scored for Cagliari, which ended a two- match losing streak and a three-game winless streak to move six points clear of the relegation zone.
Cagliari has 41 points from 34 games, but the five teams below it in the table play Wednesday to complete the midweek action - although Novara and Cesena both sit at least 16 points back.
Catania lost for the third time in its last four as its European hopes suffered another blow. Catania is eighth in the table, five points behind Napoli for the league's second Europa League berth.
Atalanta 1, Chievo 0
Bergamo, Italy - Maximiliano Moralez scored in the 72nd minute as Atalanta beat Chievo, 1-0, on Tuesday at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia in Italy's Serie A.
Atalanta won for the second time in its last three matches and, despite a six- point penalty to start the season, moved eight points clear of the relegation zone in ninth place.
Chievo lost for the second time during a three-game winless skid, and sits 10th and also eight points clear of the bottom three with the majority of the league still to play Wednesday.
