Cadet knows he has to hold on to the football for Saints

Saints running back Travaris Cadet knows he has to hold on to the football.

Cadet fumbled twice in the Saints' 28-20 preseason win against the Oakland Raiders last Friday.

Neither cost the Saints on the scoreboard, but coach Sean Payton was not pleased.

Cadet made the team last year as an undrafted rookie from Appalachian State. He is trying to secure a roster spot in the backfield with veterans Mark Ingram, Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles.

Cadet has rushed for 35 yards on 18 carries, caught two passes for 22 yards and returned two punts for 21 yards in the preseason.

His chief competition is Khiry Robinson, an undrafted rookie from West Texas A&M, who leads the team in rushing with 102 yards and also caught four passes for 43 yards.

The Saints (2-0) play the Texans (2-0) on Sunday.
