Winnipeg, MB (SportsNetwork.com) - Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien will miss 2-to-4 weeks after suffering an upper-body injury Thursday against the Ottawa Senators.
Jets head coach Paul Maurice confirmed Byfuglien's injury at a press conference on Friday. Maurice also said forward and leading goal-scorer Bryan Little will miss at least the first part of a four-game road trip which begins Saturday in Nashville.
The injuries come at a tough time for Winnipeg, which has lost four of its last six games and is holding only a two-point lead over Los Angeles for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference.
Byfuglien, who has played both defense and forward for the Jets this season, left Thursday's 3-1 home loss midway through the second period and did not return. He is fourth on the team with 42 points on 15 goals and 27 assists.
"We'll miss him," said Maurice of Byfuglien. He's a force back there for sure. We've dealt with a number of injuries on our back end. We have good people to put in the lineup."
Little sustained an undisclosed injury Thursday, but he will join the team for the upcoming trip. The centerman is pacing Winnipeg with 24 goals and is second on the team with 51 points.
The Jets recalled forward Eric O'Dell from the St. John's IceCaps of the American Hockey League on Friday. He has played in just one game for Winnipeg this season, but has posted 14 goals and 15 assists in 37 tilts for the IceCaps.
