Berea, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - The Cleveland Browns placed defensive end Desmond Bryant on the reserve/non-football illness list Wednesday after being diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat.
Bryant, who signed a five-year contract with Cleveland as an unrestricted free agent in March, had started each of the first 12 games of this season and recorded 31 tackles and 3 1/2 sacks.
The Harvard product had spent his first four NFL seasons with Oakland and amassed nine sacks while making 18 starts for the Raiders over the previous two years.
Cleveland elevated wide receiver Brian Tyms from the practice squad to fill the open roster spot. Tyms had participated in three games for the Browns earlier this season prior to being waived on Nov. 26.
