Brown guard Shawn Lauvao undergoing ankle surgery, will not be ready for start of season

Browns starting right guard Shawn Lauvao is undergoing arthroscopic ankle surgery and will not be ready for the start of the regular season.

Coach Rob Chudzinski said Friday that Lauvao (la-vow), who has made 32 consecutive starts, did not break a bone when he was injured earlier this week in practice. Chudzinski would not provide any other specifics of Lauvao's injury or a timetable for his return.

Jason Pinkston started for Lauvao in Thursday night's exhibition opener against St. Louis and will likely be in the starting lineup for the Sept. 8 opener against Miami. Pinkston made 22 consecutive starts at left guard before he was developed blood clots in his lungs last season.

Lauvao was one of four Browns offensive linemen who did not miss a snap last season.
