HOUSTON (Reuters) - Aaron Brooks scored 30 points, including six three-pointers, to lead the Houston Rockets to a 97-94 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday.
The Texas rivals were tied at 89-89 with 2:11 left on the clock when Shane Battier drained a three-pointer to give the Rockets the lead. Brooks added another three on the next scoring shot to widen the gap.
The Mavericks (22-10) trailed by 13 points during the third quarter but fought their way back and had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer but Jason Kidd's long-range shot just missed.
"This was just a great win. Our effort was tremendous tonight," Rockets coach Rick Adelman told reporters. "We played through a lot of stuff, so I was really happy to finish the year like that."
Jason Terry top scored for the Mavericks with 20 points while Josh Howard chipped in with 16.
Carl Landry, who lost several teeth after a collision with Dirk Nowitzki in their last encounter, scored 15 off the bench while Luis Scola and Kyle Lowry each contributed 12 for the Rockets (20-13).
Nowitzki struggled to open up Houston's defense and finished with 11 points.
"(We disrupted Nowitzki) a little bit," said Landry.
"I've played against him a few times. This is my third year, so I kind of understand what he likes to do and his strengths. I just tried to take away his strengths."
