Englewood, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Denver Broncos have activated linebacker Von Miller, who was eligible to return to the club after serving a six-game suspension for violations of the league's substance-abuse policy.
The 2011 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year returned to practice Wednesday and is likely to make his season debut on Sunday when the Broncos visit the Indianapolis Colts.
It was a bumpy summer for Miller, who was initially fighting a four-game suspension. Speculation began to circulate that the NFL was attempting to lengthen the penalty to as much as a year. A report from ESPN in September said Miller may have tried to tamper with his urine sample by collaborating with the collector.
The NFL eventually settled on a six-game ban.
Miller was the second overall pick in the 2011 draft. He recorded 64 tackles and 11 1/2 sacks in his first season to earn the league's top rookie award on defense. The 24-year-old Texas A&M product built on his impressive debut campaign by posting 68 tackles and 18 1/2 sacks in 2012.
The Broncos opened a roster spot by waiving wide receiver Tavarres King.
