Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks is out for the season with a left hamstring injury.

According to MLB.com, he is expected to need surgery.

Weeks was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Thursday after sending him to Milwaukee for an MRI scan, which indicated he had a seriously strained left hamstring.

He suffered the injury while running to first base in the eighth inning of Wednesday's game against the Giants.

The 30-year-old finishes the season with a .209 batting average, 10 home runs, 24 RBI and seven stolen bases in 104 games.

The Brewers are expected to use Scooter Gennett for the rest of the season. Coming into Friday's game, the 23-year-old is batting .231 with one home run and five RBI in his first major league season. In 79 games with Triple-A Nashville, he hit .280 with three home runs, 22 RBI and 10 stolen bases.
