Buenos Aires, Argentina (SportsNetwork.com) - Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares captured Saturday's doubles match to give Brazil a slight edge over South American rival Argentina in their first-round Davis Cup tie.
Melo and Soares rolled to a 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 win over the Argentine duo of Carlos Berlocq and Diego Sebastian Schwartzman to give Brazil a 2-1 lead in their best-of-five series.
Joao Souza will give the visitors the first opportunity to clinch the tie Sunday in the opening reverse singles match against Leonardo Mayer. Both were winners in singles action Friday.
Souza outlasted Berlocq in five sets to give Brazil the first point of the weekend before Mayer topped Tomaz Bellucci in four sets to even the tie.
A potential decisive rubber would feature Berlocq against Bellucci, although Federico Delbonis is also available for the hosts.
Argentina is 5-2 all-time versus Brazil in Davis Cup play.
The winner of this opening-round tie will face Serbia in a July quarterfinal. The Serbs clinched their first-round tie Saturday against Croatia with a doubles victory.
