Atlanta, GA – The Atlanta Braves placed rookie shortstop Andrelton Simmons on the 15-day disabled list on Monday after an examination revealed a fractured bone in his right hand.
Simmons was evaluated by Dr. Gary Lourie, who discovered a non-displaced fracture of the fifth metacarpal. The hand will be placed in a cast for four weeks and no timetable has been set for a return.
The 22-year-old made his major league debut on June 2 and has batted .296 with three homers, 15 RBI and 13 runs scored in 33 games for the Braves this season.
A corresponding roster move will be made after the All-Star break.
