Atlanta Braves pitcher Tim Hudson will start the season on the 15-day disabled list after having offseason back surgery and throwing just two innings in spring training.
The right-hander had surgery in November to repair a herniated disc in his back and didn't throw in a game until Monday, when he struck out two and gave up one hit in two innings against the Mets.
Hudson, 36, went 16-10 in 33 starts for the Braves last season and threw more than 200 innings for the eighth time in his 13-year career.
He has compiled a record of 181-97 and a 3.40 earned run average in 378 games since 1999 with Oakland and Atlanta.
