Linz, Austria (SportsNetwork.com) - Wimbledon runner-up Eugenie Bouchard notched a win, while second-seeded two-time champion Ana Ivanovic, third- seeded Australian Open runner-up Dominika Cibulkova and fifth seed Sabine Lisicki all exited the draw at the Generali Ladies Linz tennis event.
The top-seeded Canadian star Bouchard took care of Austrian wild card Patricia Mayr-Achleitner 6-4, 6-1 in the opening round on Wednesday. Bouchard's second- round opponent on Thursday will be Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova.
The second-seeded Ivanovic was scheduled to meet American qualifier Madison Brengle in a second-round affair, but the former world No. 1 from Serbia pulled out, citing a left hip injury, thus giving the 24-year-old Brengle a walkover into Friday's quarterfinals.
The recent Tokyo titlist Ivanovic was the Linz champion in 2008 and 2010 and last year's runner-up here to German Angelique Kerber.
Meanwhile, the 2011 Linz runner-up Cibulkova and last year's Wimbledon runner- up Lisicki suffered first-round upsets, as German qualifier Anna-Lena Friedsam grounded Cibulkova 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 and Italian Karin Knapp sacked Lisicki 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (7-1).
In second-round action on Day 3, Italian Camila Giorgi dismissed Tunisian qualifier Ons Jabeur 6-3, 6-2, New Zealand's Marina Erakovic clobbered Czech Klara Koukalova 6-0, 6-2, and Swiss Stefanie Voegele defeated Slovak Anna Schmiedlova 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 at TipsArena Linz. Giorgi will meet Erakovic in the quarters.
The 2014 Linz titlist will earn $43,000.
