Montreal, QC (SportsNetwork.com) - Dave Bolland scored the deciding goal in the sixth round of the shootout to lift the Florida Panthers to a 3-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday.
Max Pacioretty scored for the Canadiens on a quick shot to start the second round, but Nick Bjugstad kept Florida alive as he cut across the slot and wristed a shot over Carey Price's glove.
After Roberto Luongo absorbed Andrei Markov's shot to open the sixth round, Bolland put an end to the game with a low shot through the pads of Price.
Tomas Fleischmann tallied a goal and an assist, Steven Kampfer also scored and Luongo made 37 saves for the Panthers, who were coming off a 3-2 win over Toronto on Tuesday.
Brendan Gallagher provided both goals for Montreal, which lost its second straight game. Price stopped 19 shots.
"I thought we had a lot of scoring chances, but Luongo is a good goalie," Gallagher said. "We can do a better job of finding the net."
Trailing 2-1, Florida tied the game 4:57 into the third period. Kampfer took Fleischmann's feed from behind the net and beat Price with a sharp-angle shot near the goal line.
The Panthers carried the play early in overtime, but Tomas Plekanec broke in on a partial breakaway halfway through the extra session. He shielded the puck on his backhand before firing a shot from his forehand, but Luongo stopped him in tight to keep Florida alive.
After a scoreless first period, Gallagher lit the lamp just 2:31 into the second period. He passed the puck back to Pacioretty, crashed the net and tapped the rebound of Pacioretty's shot through Luongo's pads.
Gallagher struck again just past the midway point of the second. P.K. Subban moved in from the right-wing boards and fired a shot on net. Gallagher fought in front and wristed the rebound past Luongo for a 2-0 game.
Fleischmann cut the deficit in half 1:22 later on a shot that skipped off the ice and over Price's pad.
"I guess my goal got everyone fired up on the bench," said Fleischmann. "I shot over (Price's) pad. I was lucky to get it up over him."
