The Cincinnati Bengals have opted to keep football injury list, effectively ending his 2011 campaign.

Rivers, the ninth overall selection in the 2008 NFL draft, had surgery on his right wrist last July and began the season on the injury list.

The Bengals received a three-week roster exemption earlier this month, allowing Rivers to work out with the team. But the exemption ended on Tuesday, and the club opted to keep him off the active roster.

The 25-year-old USC product has yet to play a full 16-game season in his career. He appeared in seven games during his rookie campaign before suffering a broken jaw, then 13 games in 2009.

Last season, he appeared in a career-high 15 games despite a foot injury.
