Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (SportsNetwork.com) - Thomaz Bellucci and Federico Delbonis were both first-round winners on Monday at the inaugural $1.3 million Rio Open, which is part of the ATP World Tour's 'Golden Swing' through Latin America.
Bellucci, playing on his native soil, bounced-back from a first-set loss to hand Colombia's Santiago Giraldo a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 defeat on the red clay at Jockey Club Brasileiro.
Argentina's Delbonis had little problems with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Brazil's Guilherme Clezar.
Also on Monday, Serb Dusan Lajovic topped Italian Filippo Volandri 6-7 (7-9), 6-3, 4-0, retired; Slovak Martin Klizan held off Spaniard Guillermo Garcia- Lopez 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4); and Argentine Facundo Bagnis edged out Brazilian Joao Souza 7-5, 2-6, 6-2.
This week's top seeds are world No. 1 superstar Rafael Nadal, last week's Buenos Aires champion David Ferrer and last week's Buenos Aires runner-up Fabio Fognini.
