The Chicago Bears have agreed to terms with year contract.

The Bears put in a claim to bring quarterback Kyle Orton back to Chicago, but the Chiefs were awarded the veteran quarterback because they have a worse record than the Bears. Orton was waived on Tuesday by the Broncos.

McCown will be the backup to Caleb Hanie, who has replaced injured starter Jay Cutler.

McCown has played in 47 career games (31 starts) in eight NFL seasons with the Cardinals (2002-05), Lions (2006), Raiders (2007) and Panthers (2009), completing 57.7 percent of his passes for 6,584 yards with 35 touchdowns and 40 interceptions.

McCown played for Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz with the Lions in 2006.
