Munich, Germany – Bayern Munich marksman Mario Gomez has been ruled out of action for a month after undergoing ankle surgery, it was revealed Tuesday.
The 27-year-old sustained the injury during Bayern's preseason friendly against Werder Bremen. With the operation being deemed a success, the club's doctor ordered the striker to rest for three weeks before starting light training work again.
"I am pleased that the operation was a success and that the pain has now gone," said Gomez in a statement. "Now I will need to be a bit patient and then I will do all I can to get back as quickly as possible."
