Munich, Germany – Bayern Munich has signed Mainz defender Jan Kirchhoff on a free transfer, and he will reportedly join the Bundesliga leaders over the summer.
Kirchhoff had earlier announced that he would be leaving Mainz this summer, and Bayern has won the race to sign the Germany Under-21 international, beating fellow Bundesliga clubs Schalke and Hoffenheim.
The 22-year-old has started six games for Mainz this season and he joins a Bayern side that already boasts a defensive group of Holger Badstuber, Jerome Boateng and Dante in central defense.
