Bayern Munich dropped its first points of the season on Tuesday as it was held to a 1-1 draw by Freiburg at the Mage Solar Stadion.
After opening the Bundesliga campaign with three successive wins, the reigning German and European champions saw their unblemished start to the new league season spoiled by Nicolas Hofler's 86th-minute equalizer.
Bayern had taken the lead in the 33rd minute when Xherdan Shaqiri collected a cross from Thomas Muller and fired home a left-footed strike into the bottom corner.
The visitors dictated play throughout but were left to rue their inefficiency in the dying stages when Sebastian Freis picked out Hofler, who was able to turn in a left-footed shot from very close range to help Freiburg earn a share of the spoils.
Bayern moves to the top of the table on 10 points, one point better than Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen. Pep Guardiola's side does hold a match in hand, but it will be negated at the conclusion of the Bundesliga's weekend slate after Bayern takes on Chelsea in Friday's UEFA Super Cup.
Freiburg, still without a win through four matches, improves to two points on the season.
