For the second time in three matches, top-seeded Victoria Azarenka of Belarus dropped only a single game, beating No. 28 Zheng Jie of China 6-0, 6-1 on Friday night to move to the fourth round of the U.S. Open.
Azarenka, who won the Australian Open to start the Grand Slam season, took the court shortly after Andy Roddick's straight-set victory over Bernard Tomic. She finished in 59 minutes and the fans were headed home by 10:15 p.m. — another early finish at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Azarenka won 50 of the 77 points against Zheng, who has never been past the third round at Flushing Meadows.
So far, Azarenka has lost only six games in three matches over the first week.
