Growing up the son of a NASCAR legend, Dale Earnhardt Jr. spent a lot of time at the racetrack.
In this Throwback Thursday photo -- which we're using in honor of Flashback Friday -- a 6-year-old Dale Jr. stands atop a camper in the infield of the old Richmond Fairgrounds Raceway while watching his dad race on Feb. 22, 1981.
Who knew then that this little guy would one day be NASCAR's 13-time most popular driver, a two-time Daytona 500 champion and in many ways the face of the sport?
