Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The Houston Astros have designated relief pitcher Jerome Williams for assignment following another shaky outing in Monday's 10-4 loss to Seattle.
Houston, which signed Williams to a $2.1 million deal in February, now has 10 days to trade or release the right-hander.
Williams was tagged for two runs on three hits and a walk in two relief innings on Monday and his ERA rose to a lofty 6.04 in the setback.
He gave up 32 earned runs on 56 hits and 15 walks over 47 2/3 innings this season for the Astros.
The club also optioned shortstop Jonathan Villar to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Villar was batting .200 with six homers and 22 RBI.
