Houston, TX – The Houston Astros have designated pitcher Philip Humber for assignment.
Humber, who tossed the 21st perfect game in major league history last April, has struggled mightily with the Astros.
The Texas native had a solid spring training, compiling a 1.73 ERA, but went 0-8 with a 9.59 ERA in seven starts and two relief appearances this season. The right-hander allowed 38 runs and 57 hits over 35 2/3 innings.
The Astros filled the roster spot by signing pitcher Edgar Gonzalez, who elected free agency after being designated for assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays on May 9.
The Blue Jays had claimed the right-hander after he was designated for assignment by Houston on April 5. Gonzalez gave up seven runs in three games for Toronto.
