The Houston Astros claimed right-handed pitcher Lance Pendleton off waivers from the New York Yankees on Friday.
Pendleton, a Houston native and Rice University graduate, attended spring training with the Astros this year after being acquired from the Yankees in the Rule 5 draft on December 9, 2010.
He was returned to the Yankees on March 28, 2011 and made 11 relief appearances, posting a 3.21 earned run average.
In other team news, Houston also signed undrafted free agent pitcher Alan Abreu out of Lander University, where he played shortstop and center field.
