Lake Buena Vista, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Oakland Athletics have sent reliever Jerry Blevins to the Washington Nationals for minor league outfielder Billy Burns.
The left-handed Blevins spent parts of the last seven seasons with the A's and last year was a valuable part of Oakland's bullpen, going 5-0 with a 3.15 ERA in 67 appearances. He also held opponents to a .218 batting average against while possessing a 5.60 strikeout-to-walk ratio against left-handed batters in particular.
Blevins was 13-6 with a 3.30 ERA over the course of his career with the A's, while averaging 8.1 strikeouts per nine innings.
Burns, meanwhile, was a 32nd round pick of the Nats in 2011 and last year swiped a career-high 74 bases in 121 games between Single-A Potomac and Double-A Harrisburg.
