Oakland, CA – Oakland Athletics pitcher Bartolo Colon left Sunday's start against the San Diego Padres with an apparent side injury.
Colon was removed in the top of the third after fielding a bunt from Alexi Amarista. The veteran hurler fielded the bunt cleanly, but his throw to first was wide as Amarista cruised into second base.
The right-hander immediately clutched at his right side and walked gingerly back to the mound before leaving the game with runners on second and third and no outs.
Pedro Figueroa, who the A's recalled from Triple-A Sacramento earlier on Sunday, entered and served up a run-scoring fielder's choice to close the book on Colon. He was charged for one run on one hit with two strikeouts over two- plus frames.
