Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was busy on deadline day with the latest pair of signings becoming midfielders Mikel Arteta and Yossi Benayoun.

Arteta will cost the club $16 million as he joins from Everton in an effort to help replace the departed Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri in the midfield.

The Spaniard enjoyed a successful spell with the Toffees prior to his move, making over 160 appearances for David Moyes' side.

Benayoun comes to North London on loan from Chelsea after appearing in just seven games in his first season with the Blues during an injury-plagued campaign.

Earlier in the day, Wenger added a pair of defenders to his squad with Germany international Per Mertesacker and Brazilian full back Andre Santos.
